Yellowjackets Drop Two in Twin Bill Against Grand View

Des Moines, IA - The Graceland baseball team (11-28) visited Heart Conference foe Grand View University (15-9) in a Heart Conference match-up looking to avenge a tough game two loss to GVU from the night before. The Yellowjackets dropped two, losing game one 4-3 and game two 7-4 in a tough road trip to the Vikings of Grand View.

Game One - GVU 4 - GU 3

Game one was a tough contest for the Yellowjackets as the the Grand View bats were hot early. The Vikings tallied four runs on seven hits in game one of the doubleheader. AJ Salinas, Corey Harrell, and Nate Goff were the heartbeat for the Yellowjacket offense driving in the three runs for Graceland. Grand View was able to score another run in the seventh inning to cruise to a victory in game one. Ben Larpenter was able to control the Yellowjacket offense allowing no hits while grabbing the win for the Vikings on the mound.

Game Two - GVU 7 - GU 4

Game two would prove to be just as tough of a game as game one, as an early inning rally by Grand View secured them the conference sweep against the Yellowjackets. It was Grand View who jumped out to an early lead in the second game of the twin bill as the Vikings were able to sustain the late run by the Yellowjackets and take game two 7-4.

Goff provided an early spark for Graceland with a RBI double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Yellowjackets on the board and cut their deficit to 4-1. Grand View was able to counter and add another run in the bottom of that inning. Grand View then added two more runs in the fifth inning to to push its lead to 7-1. The Yellowjackets were able to tack on more runs in the sixth and seventh innings making the score 7-4 but would not be able to ctach GVU as they would take the game two loss.

Goff ended the game with two hits and two RBIs as he led the offensive attack for the Yellowjackets. Organel Medina and Angel Hernandez Jr were able to continue their hot hitting with hits of their own. William Salas, Parker Reynolds, Harrell, and Juan Frazier scored the four runs in the loss.

The Yellowjackets look to get back on track in Heart Conference play with a doubleheader against Avila University on April 12th. First pitch is set for 1:00pm.
