Yellowjacket Baseball Falls 14-2 to William Woods
JOPLIN, MO. - Graceland University's baseball team wrapped up their weekend in Joplin yesterday with one game against William Woods University. The Owls defeated the Yellowjackets, 14-2 in the 7-inning contest.
Chris Morris started on the mound for the Yellowjackets yesterday and went four innings. He gave up three runs in the four innings, but none were earned.
The game was scoreless through three innings of play as the first score came in the top of the 4th by William Woods. They would capitalize off of Graceland's miscues defensively and take a 3-0 lead.
William Woods would then score ten runs in the top of the 5th to take a commanding lead in the game. The Yellowjackets would score twice in the bottom of the 6th for their lone runs of the contest. The Owls would add one insurance run in the top of the seventh and hold Graceland scoreless in the bottom half.
As a team, Graceland had just four hits in the game compared to William Woods' 11. Defensively, the Yellowjackets would commit three errors in the game. Taylor Burrow would have the lone extra base hit for Graceland with a double. Two of the team's four hits came off the bat of Jerred Soriano and knocked in both Yellowjacket runs.
The baseball team is scheduled for three games next weekend back in Joplin. They are set to play the University of Saint Mary on Friday night. On Saturday, they are scheduled for a game versus Heart foe Culver-Stockton College followed by Concordia University later that evening.
