Graceland Baseball to Host Strike Out Cancer Series

LAMONI - Next week, the Graceland University baseball team is set to host Presentation College in a three-game series with a doubleheader on March 10 and a single 9-inning contest on March 11. During the series, they will host their Strike Out Cancer event to benefit the Kansas University (KU) Cancer Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Graceland head coach Brady McKillip's wife, Leslea, was diagnosed with stage 3 HER2 positive breast cancer in March 2017. KU Cancer Center and their team of doctors were instrumental in her treatment, and Leslea beat the disease. "Leslea has been cancer free since August of 2017, and this event was inspired by our desire to give something back to their incredible team," Coach McKillip said.

During the Strike Out Cancer event and every Sunday for the remainder of the season, Graceland will wear limited-edition authentic navy and pink Nike jerseys that will go up for auction starting Tuesday, March 10.

Coach McKillip's #4 jersey will be signed by both teams and their coaching staff. Those interested in bidding on a uniform can go to https://www.32auctions.com/gracelandbaseball2020 from 1 pm on March 10-March 20. Opening bids will begin at $100. For all jerseys except McKillip's, an option to buy immediately for $200 will be available.

The first $50 of every jersey purchased will cover the costs, and the remaining proceeds will be donated to KU Cancer Center. Once the auction concludes at 6 p.m. March 20, winning bidders will be contacted for payment details. Free will donations will also be accepted by those in attendance.
