Senior Spotlight: Andrew Maxson

LAMONI - The Graceland University athletic department is honoring a Spring sport senior who did not get the chance to finish their final season. We are completing the honors of the baseball program's seniors at the beginning of this week. The baseball team had just over half of their 2020 campaign remaining when the season was officially cancelled. Our final baseball Senior Spotlight is Andrew Maxson.

Andrew, a native of Tolleson, Arizona, was a four-year member of the Yellowjacket baseball program. He was primarily a catcher all four seasons and appeared in a total of 132 games throughout his career.

Through 379 career at bats, Maxson had 93 hits including 24 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He compiled his best seasons at the plate in his freshman and junior years. As a freshman, Maxson hit for a .284 average with a .385 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .352. In his junior season, he held a batting average of .268, slugging percentage of .384, and had a .340 on base percentage.

Defensively, Andrew threw out a total of 37 runners in his career including a season-high 13 as a junior. Starting 119 games, he had a .975 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Head coach Brady McKillip commented, "I want to wish Andrew the best of luck in his future endeavors. Having been a four year starter for us at the Catching position, he will be missed. His quiet leadership was heard by all and he will succeed in anything he does."

Graceland University wants to thank Andrew for his committment to the baseball program and Graceland Athletics as a whole. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
