Coach Syrus Dumas brings a championship mindset, modern football intelligence, and proven leadership to the Graceland University football program. A former collegiate student-athlete with experience at multiple levels of the game, Dumas combines on-field success with a forward-thinking approach to coaching and player development.

Dumas’ playing career was highlighted by consistent team success, including conference and bowl championships, and individual recognition at the national level. He was named CFB All-Independent First Team and Phil Steele All-Independent Second Team in 2022, reflecting his competitive edge and football IQ. His championship pedigree includes titles in the KJCC Conference, Quick Lane Bowl, Frisco Bowl, and Myrtle Beach Bowl, reinforcing a background built on winning cultures and accountability .

Transitioning into coaching, Dumas has quickly established himself as a versatile and detail-oriented defensive coach. He has served with the WNFC’s Atlanta Truth, coaching defensive backs and coordinating special teams, while also taking on expanded responsibilities as Defensive Co-Coordinator, Passing Game Coordinator, and Special Teams Coordinator. His coaching emphasis centers on technique, leverage, situational awareness, and disciplined execution across all phases of the game .

At the high school level, Dumas has contributed as a volunteer coach at Center Point High School and Hueytown High School, working with defensive backs and assisting in strength and conditioning development. His ability to connect with athletes, teach fundamentals, and demand consistent effort has earned respect from players and staff alike .

Off the field, Dumas brings a unique skill set rooted in technology, leadership, and innovation. He holds a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Cyber Security at UTSA, with additional academic focus in AI and prompt engineering. This background enhances his analytical approach to film study, game planning, and player communication.
