Graceland Flag Football Sweeps Inaugural Spring Sting Showdown

LAMONI, Iowa The Graceland University Yellowjackets delivered a commanding performance on Saturday during the inaugural Spring Sting Showdown, hosted at North Park in Lamoni. The one-day invitational featured Rockford University (IL), Pratt Community College (KS), and Bryant & Stratton College (WI), highlighting a competitive day of NAIA women's flag football. Graceland emerged undefeated, finishing 3-0 on the day and building momentum ahead of postseason play.

The Yellowjackets opened the event with a decisive 48-8 win over Rockford, followed by a tightly contested 18-12 victory against Bryant & Stratton, and concluded with a 33-7 win over Pratt to sweep the home showcase.

Game 1: Graceland 48, Rockford 8

Graceland set the tone early with a high-tempo offensive approach and consistent execution in the red zone. The Yellowjackets capitalized on multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, while the defense limited Rockford's progress with disciplined flag pulling and effective zone coverage. The result was a wire-to-wire victory and the team's highest point total of the season.

Game 2: Graceland 18, Bryant & Stratton 12

The second game presented the biggest challenge of the day for Graceland. Bryant & Stratton played sound defense and kept the Yellowjackets in check for much of the first half. However, Graceland's offense found success on key fourth-down conversions, and the defense held strong in the red zone.

A defensive stand inside the 10-yard line with under two minutes remaining secured the win for Graceland in a tightly contested matchup.

Game 3: Graceland 33, Pratt CC 7

Graceland closed the day with another dominant showing, this time against Pratt. The Yellowjackets controlled the game from the opening possession, mixing effective short-yardage passes with explosive gains on the perimeter. Defensively, Graceland kept Pratt off balance, forcing turnovers and converting a pick-six in the second half to seal the win.

Following the event, head coach Aaron Richardson praised his team's performance and the significance of the program's progress.

"As a program we are extremely excited to wrap up our inaugural season with a positive record and experience. We are looking forward to the continued growth of our program as we head into the KCAC championships on Friday," Richardson said.
