Flag Football Finishes Unbeaten at Spring Sting Showdown with Win Over Hesston

LAMONI, IowaGraceland University's women's flag football team closed out the second annual Spring Sting Showdown with a decisive 38-6 victory over Hesston College on Saturday, finishing the weekend a perfect 3-0. The Yellowjackets controlled the game on both sides of the ball, executing efficiently in the passing game while forcing multiple turnovers defensively.

Quarterback Sierra Flores led the offense with four touchdown passes and 190 passing yards, consistently finding rhythm in Graceland's short-to-intermediate passing concepts. Delaney Mondino emerged as the primary target, totaling nine receptions for 117 yards and three touchdowns, utilizing sharp route-running and separation at the break point to create scoring opportunities.

Graceland established momentum early, opening the scoring in the first quarter on a five-yard touchdown connection from Flores to Jaida Lammie. The Yellowjackets then delivered a dominant second quarter, scoring 25 points behind quick-strike drives and efficient red-zone execution, including multiple successful conversion attempts.

Defensively, Graceland applied consistent pressure and capitalized on coverage discipline, recording three interceptions and limiting Hesston to just six points, which came late in the fourth quarter. The unit held Hesston to 208 total yards and forced key turnovers that shifted field position throughout the contest.

"We executed our game plan at a high level and played clean flag football," head coach Aaron Richardson said. "Our quarterback made good reads, our receivers won in space, and defensively we stayed disciplined in coverage and pulled flags in critical moments. It's the type of performance we expect as we continue to build consistency."

Graceland finished with 302 total yards of offense and averaged 6.3 yards per play, showcasing efficiency in its pass-heavy scheme while maintaining ball security and tempo control.

With the win, the Yellowjackets conclude day two of the Spring Sting Showdown undefeated and carry momentum into conference play.

Graceland returns to action on Wednesday, April 15, traveling to face Kansas Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CDT at Gene Bissell Field in Salina, Kansas. The matchup presents another opportunity for the Yellowjackets to build on their offensive rhythm and defensive pressure schemes against a conference opponent.
