Graceland’s Cole Bowen Named Bevo Francis Top 100 Finalist
LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University men's basketball standout Cole Bowen has been named to the Top 100 Watch List for the prestigious Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award, given annually to the top overall player in small college basketball.
Bowen, the reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Player of the Year, continues to build on his legacy after a stellar campaign last season. His inclusion among the top 100 finalists for the Bevo Francis Award highlights not only his statistical excellence, but also his leadership, versatility, and overall impact on the game.
"This is a tremendous honor for Cole and it is much deserved," said head coach Todd Lorensen. "He is a complete player who can take over a game on either end of the court in multiple ways. He can play basically any position on the floor and guard one through five, which is a huge asset to our program."
Now in its ninth year, the Bevo Francis Award—named in honor of the legendary scorer Clarence "Bevo" Francis—recognizes one player from across all levels of small college basketball (NAIA, NCAA Division II and III, USCAA, and NCCAA) who best exemplifies excellence in performance, character, and team contribution.
Bowen's all-around game and leadership have anchored the Yellowjackets' success. Known for his relentless work ethic and team-first mentality, Bowen has not only been a force on the court but a role model off it.
"What makes it all the more rewarding as a coach is Cole is about all the right things," Lorensen added. "He works hard, takes tremendous care of his body, is a great student, and a tremendous teammate. Everyone in the locker room has respect for him and wants to cheer on his personal successes within our team's goals."
Bowen expressed gratitude for the recognition and credited those around him for his continued success.
"It's definitely an honor to be a finalist for such a prestigious award alongside so many amazing college players," said Bowen. "I would definitely not be a finalist for this award without my teammates and coaches."
With this recognition, Bowen joins an elite group of players vying for one of the most coveted individual honors in small college basketball. The list will be narrowed to 50 players in February, with further cutdowns leading to the eventual winner this spring.
For Graceland and its basketball program, Bowen's recognition is a testament to the program's strength, culture, and continued rise in national relevance.
