Men’s Golf Competes at Central Fall Classic, Paramananthan Ties for 11th

PELLA, Iowa — The Graceland University men's golf team completed a two-round test at the Central Fall Classic on Tuesday, placing 10th overall in a 15-team field with a 36-hole team score of 640 (324-316, +64). The event was held at Bos Landen Golf Resort on a 6,602-yard, par-72 layout that demanded precision and recovery throughout both rounds.

Jonathan Paramananthan led the Yellowjackets with a two-day total of 155 (+11) to finish tied for 11th overall among more than 85 players. After opening with an 81, Paramananthan rebounded in the final round with a team-low 74 (+2), showcasing his ability to manage the course under pressure and post a countable number for the team.

"Jonathan continues to be a stabilizing presence for our group," said head coach Kevin Brunner. "He showed maturity and execution in his second round, and it was exactly the kind of leadership we needed in this tournament. We're seeing signs of progress, but we know there's more to build on heading into the conference preview."

Also contributing to the team's second-round improvement were Clayton Wichman and Colton Dennis. Wichman finished with a 160 (+16) total after rounds of 82 and 78, tying for 29th. Dennis shot 165 (84-81, +21), tying for 46th. Saxen Hii also posted 165 (82-83), while Kallum Webb closed out the scoring lineup with a 166 (79-87, +22), tying for 50th.

Competing as an individual, Trevor Shelton recorded a 176 (91-85, +32).

Dubuque University took the team title with a 599 (+23), edging out Central College "A" by 13 strokes. Grinnell College and Augustana (IL) "A" followed in third and fourth, respectively. Graceland's second-round team score of 316 was an eight-shot improvement over its opening round, demonstrating an effective adjustment to course setup and conditions.

Paramananthan's 74 was one of the lower final rounds in the field and highlighted Graceland's ability to produce individual rounds that can contend near the top of the leaderboard. He was one of just a handful of players to record a sub-75 round on day two.

Overall, the tournament format remained stroke play, with five-player teams counting the lowest four scores each round. The field featured a competitive mix of NAIA and NCAA Division III programs, including multiple squads from Central, Simpson, Augustana, and William Penn.

Graceland will now turn its attention to a key event on the fall calendar: the Heart of America Athletic Conference Preview.

The Yellowjackets return to action on Monday, October 20, at 9:00 a.m. CDT, competing in the Heart of America Conference Preview at Paradise Pointe – Outlaw Course in Smithville, Missouri.
