Yellowjackets Secure Victory Over Midland - Continue Strong Start to Season

FREMONT, Neb. – Graceland University's men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Midland University on Saturday afternoon, showcasing its continued growth and determination.

The Yellowjackets, now boast an impressive 3-0-2 record and have started off navigating a very strong non-conference schedule and positioning themselves for an exciting season.
The game began with both teams carefully probing each other's defenses, but it was Graceland who broke through first. In the 15th minute, a long throw from Andrew Porter found its target in the box, where Guillermo Tejada expertly half-volleyed the ball into the net, scoring his first goal of his university career.

Just two minutes later, Porter once again made his presence felt, connecting with Hajime Osaki, off a corner kick set piece who headed the ball into the goal, giving the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead at the half.

Despite a late push from Midland University, including a deflected goal in the 86th minute, the Yellowjackets held firm, thanks to a solid defensive performance and disciplined play.

Head Coach, Bryan Courtney praised the team's effort and highlighted their ongoing improvements. "Today we were able to try new combinations and rotations of our players as we look to add experience to our squad," added Courtney.

"This is our third game in seven days. It was nice to be able to have so many of the players enter the match and contribute to this win."

Following Saturday's road win, the Jackets continue to build momentum as they prepare for their next match. The Yellowjackets will return home to face Doane University on Saturday, September 7th beginning at 5:00 pm at the "Razz."
