Graceland Men’s Varsity Reserve Secures 4-1 Win Over William Penn

LAMONI, Iowa – The Graceland University men's varsity reserve soccer team turned in a strong performance Thursday night, earning a 4-1 victory over William Penn at Rasmussen Soccer Complex.

The Yellowjackets wasted little time setting the tone. In the 10th minute, Matteo Iossa rose above the defense to head home a corner kick, giving Graceland the early lead. Just nine minutes later, Stosh Nevshemal doubled the advantage, finishing off an assist from Alex Iossa. The Jackets struck again less than two minutes later when Victor Chirinos converted a setup from Ryan Gourzong in the 21st minute to put Graceland ahead 3-0. William Penn pulled one back in the 42nd minute, but the Jackets carried a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Graceland extended its control early in the second half. Nevshemal scored his second goal of the match in the 58th minute, restoring the three-goal cushion. William Penn resorted to a more physical style as the half wore on, with two players booked for yellow cards. The Jackets, however, maintained composure and finished with only one caution.

Freshman goalkeeper Landon Wickham anchored the defense, playing the full 90 minutes and recording nine saves to limit William Penn's attack. Graceland finished with 10 shots on target and a balanced effort across the pitch.

The Yellowjackets return to action Sunday, Sept. 14, traveling to Park University for their Heart of America Athletic Conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
