Graceland Men’s Varsity Reserve Battles Through Doubleheader in Parkville
Parkville, Mo. - The Graceland University men's Varsity Reserve soccer team displayed grit and resilience on Sunday, competing in a challenging road doubleheader that included two tightly contested matches against Missouri Valley and Park University.
In the first match at 11 a.m., the Yellowjackets went toe-to-toe with Missouri Valley in a physical defensive battle. After holding strong for nearly the full 90 minutes, Graceland conceded the match-winner with just two minutes remaining, falling 1-0.
Forward Henry Henderson, of Rishworth, England, earned Man of the Match honors for his relentless work up top. Henderson consistently pressured the Missouri Valley defense and set the tone with his work rate and energy.
Graceland regrouped for a 2 p.m. kickoff against host Park University. This time, the Yellowjackets found their rhythm and battled to a 1-1 draw. Midfielder Victor Chirinos, from Calgary, Canada, scored Graceland's lone goal and was named Man of the Match for his leadership and playmaking in the midfield.
Several other players stood out across both matches. Owen Dye anchored the defensive line with consistent positioning and composed clearances. Landon Wickham commanded the goal with authority, organizing the back line and making key stops. In the attacking third, Tomas Giraldo and Malachi Parks worked tirelessly to generate chances and apply pressure in transition.
While the results included a narrow loss and a draw, the Yellowjackets showed determination, cohesion, and roster depth in both matches—laying a strong foundation as the season progresses.
UP NEXT: Graceland Men's Varsity Reserve returns home to host Grand View University on Wednesday, September 25 under the lights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
