Graceland Men’s Varsity Reserve Battles to 1-1 Draw Against Grand View
LAMONI, Iowa – The Graceland University men's varsity reserve soccer team earned a 1-1 draw Thursday night against Grand View University in a fast-paced contest on the home field.
The opening half featured back-and-forth play with both sides creating scoring opportunities. Graceland relied heavily on goalkeeper Dither Beltran, who stood tall with eight saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the Vikings scoreless heading into halftime.
Grand View broke through in the second half, capitalizing on sustained offensive pressure to claim the opening goal. The Yellowjackets answered quickly as Henry Henderson (#23) found space at the top of the box and delivered a powerful strike to level the score at 1-1. The equalizer energized the home crowd and set up a hard-fought finish.
Defensively, Owen Dye (#20) earned Man of the Match honors for his composure and work rate across the back line, shutting down key Grand View attacks and helping stabilize Graceland's defensive shape.
With the draw, the Yellowjackets turn their focus to a doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 28, in Parkville, Mo. Graceland will face Baker University at noon before meeting Rockhurst at 2 p.m. at the Park University Soccer Complex.
