Yellowjackets JV Squad Stays Hot With Back-to-Back Wins Over Missouri Valley, Rockhurst
LAMONI, Iowa — The Graceland University Men's Varsity Reserve team continued its impressive run of form on Sunday afternoon at Rasmussen Field, securing consecutive victories over Missouri Valley and Rockhurst University in a dynamic doubleheader.
In the opener against Missouri Valley, the Yellowjackets came out organized and sharp, taking control early with a composed first-half finish from striker Max Dutton. The momentum continued into the second half, where Stosh Nevshemal doubled the lead in the 76th minute off a slick assist from Dylan Ondieki.
Missouri Valley clawed one back with just 48 seconds remaining, but the Jackets had a quick response. Dutton found the net again—his second goal of the match—just 27 seconds later, capitalizing on a clever setup from Nevshemal to seal a 3-1 win.
Dutton earned Man of the Match honors for his clinical two-goal performance, displaying both precision and composure in front of goal.
Riding the wave of momentum, Graceland entered the second match against Rockhurst with the same energy and focus. Henry Henderson opened the scoring early, converting a well-placed assist from Bahaa Merbeb. Just before the break, center back Owen Dye made a statement on a set piece, rising above the defense to head home Graceland's second goal and give the home side a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Rockhurst increased the pressure after the break, but the Yellowjackets' defense stood firm. Goalkeeper Landon Wickham anchored the back line with a series of timely saves to preserve the clean sheet and earn Man of the Match recognition. Dye also received honorable mention for his commanding presence on the back end and his first-half goal.
The sweep marks a key step forward for the JV squad, which continues to showcase depth, discipline, and growing chemistry as the season progresses.
Graceland's Varsity Reserve will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to face William Penn University at 7:00 p.m.
