PELLA, Iowa — The Graceland University men's outdoor track and field team competed Saturday at the Central College Dutch Invitational, facing a deep field that included NCAA Division I, II and junior college programs .
Graceland's top performances came in the short sprint events, where multiple athletes posted competitive marks in large heats. In the 100 meters, senior Brice Taylor led the Yellowjackets with a 12th-place finish in 10.81 seconds, advancing through the preliminary round and executing a clean transition phase into max velocity . Junior Tael Jean followed with a 10.98 mark, while junior Kaeden Monday added an 11.06 performance, contributing to a strong team presence in the event's qualifying rounds.
In the 200 meters, Monday returned to post Graceland's top time at 22.54 seconds, placing 37th overall in a tightly packed field . His race featured controlled curve mechanics and a consistent drive through the homestretch. Elias Walker added a 23.52 effort, while Payton Miller recorded 23.86, highlighting depth across sprint groups.
The Yellowjackets also saw action in the 400 meters, where Miller led the squad with a 54.15 finish, emphasizing race distribution and stride maintenance over the final 100 meters . Additional entries included Logan Mace (58.69) as Graceland continued to build quarter-mile conditioning early in the outdoor campaign.
In middle-distance competition, Bradley Harris posted the team's top mark in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:08.22. Moses Ridley (2:18.18) and Fidher Ramirez (2:25.17) rounded out Graceland's entries, focusing on pacing strategy and pack positioning through the opening lap .
Graceland did not record a top-three finish at the meet, as the competition featured nationally competitive times across all sprint and middle-distance events. The meet served as an early-season benchmark for performance evaluation and technical refinement.
Head coach Tom Shore noted continued progress across event groups.
"We are seeing improved execution in phase distribution, particularly in the sprints. Our athletes are competing with discipline, and the focus remains on refining mechanics and building race consistency," Shore said.
The Yellowjackets will continue training emphasis on block starts, acceleration patterns and aerobic development as the outdoor season progresses.
Graceland returns to competition Saturday, April 4, at 9:00 a.m. CDT at the Pitt State David Suenram Gorilla Classic, held at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburgh, Kansas.
