Graceland Falls to No. 8 Park in Conference Opener
LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University men's volleyball opened Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night with a straight-set loss to visiting No. 8 Park University, falling 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 at the Morden Center.
Graceland dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in Heart play, while Park remained undefeated, improving to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Yellowjackets struggled to find rhythm offensively, finishing with 18 kills on 69 attempts and a .058 team hitting percentage. Kaden Joseph led Graceland with seven kills, while Jackson House added six kills on a .417 clip. Graceland managed just one service ace and eight service errors, while posting 17 digs and two total blocks.
Park dictated play from the outset with a balanced and efficient attack, registering a .479 team hitting percentage and 43 kills across three sets. Alessandro Tolin led all hitters with 10 kills (.615), supported by Leonardo Maldonado (8 kills, .429) and Kaabeche Abdelmouaiz (9 kills, .615). Setter Umberto Caleca contributed 26 assists and two service aces, helping Park maintain offensive control throughout the match. The Pirates also recorded 12 block assists and seven service aces, while limiting Graceland to just six kills per set.
Graceland's most competitive stretch came during the second set, where it briefly tied the match 3-3 before Park responded with a 6-1 run to regain control. Despite improved passing sequences, the Jackets were unable to slow Park's multi-pronged offense or generate consistent side-outs.
The Yellowjackets struggled in serve-receive, allowing seven aces and committing eight reception errors, and were unable to capitalize on transition opportunities. Park closed each set with late runs, minimizing Graceland's ability to build momentum.
Graceland continues Heart of America action on Friday, Feb. 13, hosting Mount Mercy University. First serve is set for 7:00 PM CST at the Morden Center in Lamoni, Iowa.
