Yellowjackets Fall to Grand View in Conference Matchup
LAMONI, Iowa — The Graceland University men's volleyball team dropped a Heart of America Athletic Conference contest to Grand View in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-14, on Saturday afternoon at the Morden Center. The Yellowjackets move to 2-23 overall and 1-13 in conference play, while Grand View improves to 12-6 overall and 10-5 in the HAAC.
Graceland opened the match with competitive early rallies, utilizing balanced offensive distribution and front-row blocking to keep pace in the first set. A mid-set scoring run by Grand View, fueled by efficient attacking and transition kills, created separation. The Vikings posted a .392 team hitting percentage, capitalizing on Graceland errors and limiting extended rallies.
The Yellowjackets recorded 23 total kills on .049 hitting, led by Elijah Kline with five kills on a .267 clip and Jerze Simonson with four kills and two block assists. Graceland added six total team blocks, showing presence at the net, but struggled to convert in-system opportunities.
In the second and third sets, Grand View controlled tempo through consistent serve pressure and setter distribution, totaling 42 assists and limiting service errors. Graceland's serve-receive unit faced difficulty against aggressive serving, resulting in out-of-system swings and reduced offensive efficiency.
"We saw flashes of disciplined play at the net and in transition, but we need to improve our first contact and offensive execution," said head coach Eric Majors. "Our focus remains on tightening serve-receive and generating more efficient swings in system."
Graceland continues conference play on the road against Missouri Valley on Tuesday, March 31, with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CDT at the Burns Athletic Center in Marshall, Missouri.
