LIBERTY, Mo. — The Graceland University softball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to No. 10 Missouri Baptist, falling 11-6 in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2 on April 7 in a neutral-site contest due to weather conditions. Graceland moves to 7-30 overall (2-10 HAAC), while Missouri Baptist improves to 24-7 overall (11-2 conference).
In Game 1, Graceland recorded eight hits and four walks, highlighted by a five-run fifth inning that erased a six-run deficit. The Yellowjackets executed situational hitting sequences, including RBI base hits from Gracyn Beckman, Brea Headly and Brooklynn Glasgow, while applying pressure on defensive miscues to level the score at 6-6.
Missouri Baptist responded with five runs over the final two innings, utilizing extra-base production, including doubles and home runs, to regain control. The Spartans totaled 14 hits and 12 RBIs, capitalizing on run-scoring opportunities and limiting Graceland's ability to close innings.
In Game 2, Graceland produced 11 hits, led by Sydney Bears, who went 3-for-3 with consistent barrel contact at the top of the lineup. McKenna Kelley and Paige Pieper contributed extra-base hits, but the Yellowjackets were limited to 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving multiple scoring chances unconverted.
Missouri Baptist generated early run support and added insurance in the middle innings, including a solo home run, to secure the 5-2 decision. Graceland's staff managed contact effectively in stretches but allowed key extra-base hits that extended innings and created separation.
"We showed the ability to string together quality at-bats and apply pressure offensively, especially in Game 1," said interim head coach Brady McKillip. "Against a top-10 program, execution in key moments and limiting extra-base damage are critical areas we will continue to address."
The Yellowjackets return to action April 11 in a home doubleheader against MidAmerica Nazarene, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. CDT at North Park in Lamoni, Iowa, with games relocated to Liberty, Missouri due to field conditions.
