Graceland Women’s Cross Country Places Eighth at Grand View Vikings Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Graceland University women's cross country team placed eighth overall at the Grand View Vikings Invite on Saturday morning, tallying 167 team points against a field of conference opponents and regional rivals.

Senior Alissa Caruso led the Yellowjackets with a 20th-place finish, clocking a time of 26:17.97 and scoring +19 team points. She was supported by a strong pack finish from Sierra Davenport (27:59.31, +31) and Caitlin Grover (27:59.53, +32). Thaya Echavarria added +42 points in 30:19.96, and Cameron Sharp closed out the scoring with a 31:08.89 finish for +43 points. Lidya Haile also competed, recording a time of 32:18.24 (+47 points).

The women's race was won by Haley Carter of Baker, who crossed the line in 23:22.72. Baker also captured the women's team title with 49 points. MidAmerica Nazarene followed in second with 52, while Benedictine (Kan.) placed third at 96.

Head coach Tom Shore highlighted the progress made by the women's squad. "Today was a step in the right direction for what we are building towards - the conference meet in November. A lot of our athletes had big improvements from our last race and we're looking to continue building each subsequent race."

The Yellowjackets will race again on Friday, October 10th, at the Indian Hills Invite, held at the Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa, Iowa. The women's race begins at 4pm CDT.
