Graceland Falls in Straight Sets at Missouri Valley

LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University men's volleyball dropped a three-set decision to Missouri Valley on March 31, falling 26-24, 25-13, 25-14 in NAIA competition. The Yellowjackets produced a strong opening frame but were unable to sustain offensive efficiency as the Vikings closed the match with consistent sideout play.

Graceland (record not provided) hit .194 as a team with 27 kills and 26 assists, highlighted by six kills from Elijah Kline and balanced contributions across the front row. Kalanikapu Aona added four kills on a .250 hitting percentage, while Nick English and Hawk Richard each recorded five kills. The Yellowjackets totaled 10 block assists, demonstrating presence at the net despite Missouri Valley's high-tempo offense.

Graceland opened the match with its most efficient set, posting a .536 attack percentage with 16 kills and just one error in Set 1, building multiple leads through controlled first-ball sideout and effective distribution from setter Luis Garcia, who finished with 14 assists. However, Missouri Valley responded late, capitalizing on transition opportunities and closing the set on a 2-0 run.

Missouri Valley (record not provided) hit .365 for the match with 47 kills, led by Luca Hasse's 15 kills and Arthur Martenelli's .636 hitting percentage. The Vikings generated offensive separation in Sets 2 and 3, combining for a .387 attack percentage while limiting Graceland to negative efficiency in the final frame.

"We executed well in system early, but we need to maintain tempo and reduce unforced errors across rotations," head coach Eric Majors said. "Our blocking assignments improved, but we have to convert more transition swings to stay competitive in conference play."

Graceland returns to action on the road against Missouri Baptist on Friday, April 3. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT at the Carl & Deloris Petty Student Recreation Complex in St. Louis, Missouri.
