Graceland Closes 2025 Season With 2-0 Road Win at Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa — Graceland University women's soccer closed its 2025 campaign with a 2-0 shutout victory over Grand View on Wednesday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, securing a third win in its final four matches of the season.

Graceland finishes the year at 7-7-4 overall and 4-6-3 in Heart play. Grand View ends its season at 1-8-5 overall, 1-8-3 in the Heart standings.

The Yellowjackets controlled much of the match, registering 25 total shots and 12 shots on goal, while limiting the Vikings to just eight total shots and seven on target. Maggie Peterson earned the shutout, finishing with seven saves and a clean sheet in net.

Graceland opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Caitlin Lageman slotted home a finish after Angelika Laginova served a ball into the penalty area. In the 64th minute, Mariam El Mir Tartouri added a second, converting a pass from Chloe Montera to double the Yellowjackets' lead.

Graceland led 12-2 in first-half shots and outshot Grand View 13-6 in the second half. The Yellowjackets also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks in the match.

Peterson's performance between the posts was backed by a back line that limited Grand View's ability to create through balls or wide service. Keylannah Gutierrez, Addison Fletcher, and Mackenzie Ralston anchored a defensive unit that was organized and effective in clearing second-chance opportunities.

Graceland hit the woodwork twice in the first half — once from Chloe Montera on a header off a corner and once from Sierra Flores from distance — but the visitors remained persistent in the final third.

Wednesday's win capped an impressive close to the season for Graceland. The Yellowjackets went 3-0-1 in their final four matches, with victories over Baker, Clarke, and Grand View, and a 1-1 draw against No. 19 MidAmerica Nazarene on Senior Night in Lamoni this past Saturday.

Despite the late-season push, Graceland finished ninth in the Heart standings with 15 points, just one point behind the eighth and final qualifying spot for the conference tournament.

"Wish the season was still going on as we've started playing the best we've played all year these last few weeks," said head coach Randall Porter. "However, in this conference you can't give points away in games you should win and that cost us this year. We continue to make progress year to year and sad this year is over already, but I'm very confident in the future we are building."

Graceland's midseason stretch from Sept. 10 to Oct. 15 yielded just one win and two draws over nine matches. The four-match unbeaten run to close the season saw the Yellowjackets allow just two goals while scoring eight, showing notable improvement on both ends.

Lageman and El Mir Tartouri led the Yellowjackets with three shots on goal each. Montera recorded four total shots and one assist, while Tessa Cook, Grace Eltiste, and Kylie Overkamp each contributed offensively off the bench. Flores and Montera played significant minutes in the midfield, helping Graceland control pace and distribution.

Defensively, Peterson made key saves late in the match, including a stop on Taylor Pattee in the 89th minute following Grand View's final corner kick of the match. Christine Burke, Katelyn Scott, and Hannah Cech also contributed to closing out the final 15 minutes.

This was the final match of the 2025 season for Graceland. The Yellowjackets now turn their focus to offseason training and continued roster development heading into the 2026 campaign.
